AInIS is an AI-based indoor navigation platform that helps visually impaired individuals navigate complex indoor environments such as airports, hospitals, and campuses.
Accessible Indoor Navigation and Information System (AInIS) is an AI-powered navigation platform designed to assist visually impaired individuals in navigating complex indoor environments such as airports, hospitals, shopping malls, and educational institutions. While outdoor navigation technologies such as GPS have significantly improved mobility for visually impaired individuals, indoor navigation remains a major challenge because GPS signals are often weak or unavailable inside buildings. As a result, navigating large indoor spaces can be difficult and sometimes unsafe for individuals with visual impairments.
AInIS addresses this challenge by combining artificial intelligence, computer vision, and spatial mapping technologies to create accessible indoor navigation systems. The platform uses cameras, sensors, and digital building maps to analyze indoor environments and generate navigation guidance tailored to the user’s location. Users receive audio instructions through a mobile device or wearable system that guides them along accessible paths within buildings.
One of the key features of AInIS is its ability to identify important landmarks and facilities inside buildings. For example, the system can recognize entrances, elevators, restrooms, service counters, and emergency exits. By identifying these features, the platform helps visually impaired users understand their surroundings and move confidently through unfamiliar environments.
The system also supports obstacle detection and route optimization. AI models analyze real-time environmental data to detect obstacles such as furniture, temporary barriers, or crowded areas. When obstacles are detected, the system automatically suggests alternative paths to ensure safe navigation.
AInIS also contributes to inclusive infrastructure planning. Building administrators can integrate the system into existing digital infrastructure to make facilities more accessible. By mapping building layouts and accessibility features, the platform helps ensure that indoor spaces comply with accessibility guidelines and provide equitable access to all users.
Overall, AInIS demonstrates how artificial intelligence can bridge the gap between digital navigation technologies and physical accessibility needs. By enabling safe and independent indoor mobility, the platform significantly improves quality of life for visually impaired individuals.
