The Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) is India’s primary source of employment and unemployment data, designed to generate reliable estimates of key labour market indicators such as Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR), Worker Population Ratio (WPR), and Unemployment Rate (UR). Conducted by the National Statistical Office (NSO), PLFS also provides quarterly updates for urban areas and annual estimates for both rural and urban regions, enabling analysis of employment trends, informal sector dynamics, and the impact of economic policies on the workforce.
Plfs Data Can Be Used To Study Employment Trends, Labour Force Participation, And Unemployment Across Rural And Urban India, Analyze Seasonal And Quarterly Changes In The Job Market, Assess The Impact Of Economic Policies On Different Demographic Groups (E.g., Gender, Age, Education), And Examine The Structure Of Informal Employment And Underemployment.
