About Dataset

This dataset provides the agriculture statistics of Odisha, India, for the agricultural year 2016-17 (July 2016 to June 2017), taken from the state's annual publication Odisha Agriculture Statistics 2016-17 (Directorate of Agriculture & Food Production, Odisha). It contains district-wise and state-level tables. Most tables cover every district of the state with a state total; some give state-level time series and comparisons with other Indian states and All-India. The tables cover crop area, production and yield by district, season (kharif and rabi) and crop for all major crops and crop groups, including paddy and rice (autumn, winter and summer), wheat, maize, ragi, millets, pulses, oilseeds, fibres, vegetables, spices, sugarcane and tobacco, with HYV and local varieties where reported, and district productivity series from 2010-11 to 2016-17; rainfall: monthly normal rainfall and rainy days, monthly and weekly rainfall for 2016, and the June-September monsoon from 1992 to 2016, plus monthly temperature and relative humidity for weather stations across the state; land use, cultivated area and kharif paddy coverage, kharif, rabi and gross cropped area, cropping intensity, HYV area, mixed cropping, other pulses area, and area and production of fruits, plantation crops and flowers; inputs and infrastructure: fertiliser (N, P, K) consumption by district and season and comparison with other states (2005-06 to 2016-17), seed distribution, seed sale rates and seed replacement rates, pesticides, farm machinery, electricity use in agriculture (2000-01 to 2016-17), soil testing, irrigation potential by source, Jalanidhi irrigation structures and irrigated area by crop, and district key indicators of agriculture; agricultural credit (crop loans) and crop insurance under PMFBY; procurement of paddy, seed cotton, and sunflower under the Price Support Scheme, minimum support prices (2011-12 to 2016-17) and factory-wise sugar production (2004-05 to 2016-17); yields by agro-climatic zone (2010-11 to 2016-17), Odisha versus All-India productivity (1970-71 to 2016-17), state-wise yields of major crops and crop groups (2004-05 to 2016-17), the largest producing states of important crops, and the rice area, yield and production series from 1990-91; and supporting data on operational holdings (Agriculture Census 2015-16), population, decadal growth and workers (Census 2011), marketable surplus (2001-02 to 2016-17), villages with crop loss (2004 to 2016), crop substitution (2005 to 2016), departmental farms, driage ratios of paddy and non-paddy crops, normal yield rates and conversion factors between primary and secondary agricultural commodities. Area is in thousand hectares, production in thousand tonnes (fibres in thousand bales) and yield in kg per hectare unless a column states otherwise. Units are given in the column names, and district names are spelt the same way in every table. The figures are aggregates and contain no personal information. The dataset is useful for policymakers, agricultural planners, researchers and analysts studying crop production, input use and agricultural development in Odisha.
