The Manual: Greywater Management provides comprehensive technical guidance for rural greywater management under SBM (G) Phase-II. It supports rural local bodies and implementing agencies in selecting, designing and managing appropriate interventions according to local geography, land availability, water-table conditions, rainfall and demography. The manual explains greywater management options at household, cluster and community levels. Household interventions include soak pits, leach pits, magic pits and kitchen gardens. Community-level options include community leach pits, waste stabilization ponds, constructed wetlands, Phytorid, decentralized wastewater treatment systems and soil bio-technology. Conveyance mechanisms such as closed drains and small-bore pipe systems are also covered, along with technical details, feasibility considerations, civil works and potential reuse. The manual emphasizes appropriate technology selection, operation and maintenance, and convergence with village-level planning. It is intended to help stakeholders establish practical systems that reduce waterlogging and pollution, support ODF Plus objectives and enable treated greywater to be managed or reused safely.
