This document dated 29th June 2020 from the National Jal Jeevan Mission provides critical technical guidelines for the design and implementation of rural water supply schemes to ensure they last for their complete design period. The primary output of schemes funded under the mission is to provide Functional Household Tap Connections to every rural household, with functionality defined as providing water in adequate quantity of at least fifty-five litres per capita per day, of prescribed quality conforming to BIS 10500 standards, and on a regular continuous basis. The document emphasizes three critical engineering aspects: selection of drinking water source that would last for the full design period, quality of materials used, and quality of construction works undertaken as per CPHEEO norms.
