A concise brochure presenting the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), its objective of providing tap water to every rural household, progress in Functional Household Tap Connections, community participation, water quality, women’s empowerment, source sustainability, and technology-enabled transparency and accountability.
The Jal Jeevan Mission – Brochure, June 2022 provides an overview of the Government of India’s flagship “Har Ghar Jal” programme, launched on 15 August 2019, with the objective of providing Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) to rural households and ensuring adequate quantity, prescribed quality and regular, long-term water supply. The brochure highlights the Mission’s focus on improving quality of life by reducing the drudgery faced by women and young girls in collecting drinking water. The brochure presents the transformation achieved between August 2019 and 31 May 2022, when rural households with FHTCs increased from 32.3 million to 96.2 million, representing 63.9 million new connections. It outlines key components of JJM, including tap-water supply, bottom-up planning, community engagement, women’s empowerment, water supply to schools and Anganwadi centres, skill development and employment generation, source sustainability, water quality and greywater management. The brochure also highlights progress in institutional and community participation, including 496,000 Village Water and Sanitation Committees, more than 406,000 Village Action Plans, 2,038 water-testing laboratories, and one million women trained to use Field Test Kits. It further showcases partnerships with sector organisations, academic institutions and IITs. The final page highlights technology-driven transparency and accountability through the JJM Dashboard, Online Water Quality Management Information System, geo-tagging, periodic functionality assessment, transparent accounting and sensor-based IoT monitoring.
The purpose of the brochure is to communicate the objectives, progress and key achievements of Jal Jeevan Mission. It highlights rural tap-water coverage, community participation, women’s empowerment, water quality, source sustainability, institutional partnerships and technology-based monitoring, thereby creating awareness about the Mission’s approach to ensuring sustainable, safe and reliable rural drinking-water supply.
