Jal Jeevan Samvad – November 2024 is the 50th edition of the monthly publication of the National Jal Jeevan Mission. Themed “Jal Utsav,” this edition highlights water conservation, community participation, sustainable water management, Functional Household Tap Connections and the implementation of the Jal Utsav campaign across 20 aspirational districts/blocks.
Jal Jeevan Samvad – November 2024 is the 50th edition of the monthly publication of the National Jal Jeevan Mission (NJJM), Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India. The theme of this edition is “Jal Utsav,” with a focus on making water conservation, water management and sustainability a priority for households and communities. The publication documents the 15-day Jal Utsav campaign, conducted from 6 to 20 November 2024 in 20 blocks of 20 aspirational districts across 20 States. The campaign was initiated by NITI Aayog in partnership with the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS) to promote water awareness, conservation, sustainability and community ownership. The edition provides comprehensive coverage of the campaign's activities, including Jal Bandhan, cleaning of water assets, chlorination, leakage detection, source sanitation surveys, rainwater harvesting, wastewater management, water-quality testing through Field Test Kits (FTKs), exposure visits, water budgeting, watershed management, tree plantation, health awareness and capacity building of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), teachers and students. The publication also presents the progress of Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) under the Jal Jeevan Mission. As on 30 November 2024, the publication records 15,32,47,885 rural households with tap-water connections, representing 79.21% coverage, compared with 16.73% at the launch of the Mission. It also reports 100% FHTC coverage in several States/UTs and provides district, block, panchayat and village-level progress. Several articles provide State- and district-level case studies from Telangana, Meghalaya, Tripura, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Nagaland, Assam, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Namsai, Odisha and West Bengal. These articles illustrate how communities, local institutions, schools, SHGs, frontline workers and other stakeholders contributed to water conservation and sustainable water management. The edition further highlights Jal Utsav as a catalyst for Jan Bhagidari (people's participation) in Jal Jeevan Mission. The campaign brought together communities, students and local leaders to create awareness and make water conservation a household priority. The issue also covers Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas and tribal empowerment, particularly the inclusion and development of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), emphasizing inclusive development, traditional knowledge and community resilience.
The Publication Aims To Document Jal Jeevan Mission’s Progress And Showcase The Jal Utsav Campaign As A Platform For Water Conservation, Community Participation And Sustainable Management. It Shares Field Experiences, Innovations, Water-quality Initiatives, Awareness Activities And Success Stories To Encourage People-driven Action And Strengthen Long-term Access To Safe Drinking Water.
