Jal Jeevan Samvad – 21st Edition, June 2022 is a monthly publication of the National Jal Jeevan Mission that documents the progress, achievements, field experiences and key implementation initiatives under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The edition presents the progressive and State/UT-wise status of Functional Household Tap Connections, coverage of schools and Anganwadi Centres, and the expansion of rural tap-water supply under Har Ghar Jal. The issue reports that, as of 30 June 2022, 9.75 crore rural households (50.75%) had tap-water connections, compared with 3.23 crore (16.84%) at the launch baseline of 15 August 2019. It also provides information on 100% FHTC States/UTs, districts, blocks, Gram Panchayats and villages, along with progress in schools and Anganwadi Centres. The publication includes articles on “Two missions for change,” “Har Ghar Jal – Improving health, nutrition and quality of life,” empowerment of women and children in Assam, community experiences from Odisha and Kerala, technology for user charges in Punjab, drinking-water supply in an Andhra Pradesh tribal village, and greywater management. It also covers the Dushanbe Water Process, a national workshop at Bhubaneswar, field-level JJM action and other developments. A major focus of the edition is community-led and sustainable implementation. The Bhubaneswar national workshop reviewed JJM progress and challenges under four themes—planning, implementation, quality, and operation & maintenance. The publication emphasizes community engagement, the role of Village Water and Sanitation Committees, women's participation, user charges, IEC and behavioural change for long-term sustainability. The edition also gives particular attention to water conservation and climate/disaster resilience. The Additional Secretary & Mission Director's note stresses uninterrupted drinking-water supply during floods and other natural disasters, climate-resilient infrastructure, community-based water-quality surveillance, capacity building and timely implementation of JJM works.
