Jal Jeevan Samvad – February 2022, 17th Edition presents the latest progress and field experiences under the Jal Jeevan Mission, covering the expansion of Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs), achievement of Har Ghar Jal, coverage of schools and Anganwadi Centres, and State/UT-wise implementation. A major focus of the issue is the milestone achieved in February 2022, when India crossed 9 crore rural households with tap water supply, while 100 districts achieved Har Ghar Jal status. The publication documents the progress made since the launch of JJM in August 2019 and highlights the Mission's objective of providing every rural household with adequate quantity, prescribed quality and adequate pressure of water on a regular and long-term basis. The issue also highlights the community-led approach to water supply management. It emphasizes the role of Gram Panchayats, Village Water & Sanitation Committees/Pani Samitis and local communities in planning, implementation, management, operation and maintenance of in-village water-supply systems. It also discusses the importance of community ownership, sustainability and capacity building. The publication features several State-level experiences and innovations, including smart water supply management in Andhra Pradesh, employment opportunities through JJM in Jammu & Kashmir, innovative solutions in Ladakh, tap water supply in remote villages of Meghalaya, women's leadership in addressing a village water crisis in Odisha, local innovations in Sikkim, and creative capacity-building approaches in West Bengal. Another important theme is operation and maintenance (O&M), water quality monitoring, skill development and long-term sustainability. The issue describes training of local people as plumbers, masons, technicians, pump operators, electricians and accountants, as well as the use of Field Test Kits and water-quality laboratories to ensure the quality of drinking water. The issue also highlights water conservation and greywater management, including the reuse of greywater for agriculture and other non-potable purposes. Field visits and review meetings described in the publication focus on O&M, water tariffs, community contribution, source sustainability, greywater management, behavioural change and water-quality monitoring.
