Jal Jeevan Samvad – August 2021 (Issue XI) presents the progress and implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission as it entered its third year. The issue focuses on the Mission's objective of providing clean and assured tap water supply to every rural household and highlights the progress of Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) across States and UTs. It also discusses the broader objective of establishing long-term drinking water security through sustainable, decentralized and community-managed water supply systems. The issue covers important themes including drinking water quality, water security, technology for transparency and accountability, Village Action Plans (VAPs), 15th Finance Commission tied grants for water and sanitation, community participation and Gram Swaraj. A significant focus is placed on the role of Gram Panchayats, Village Water & Sanitation Committees (VWSCs) and Pani Samitis in planning, implementation, management, operation and maintenance of in-village water supply systems. The publication also highlights women's participation and leadership in community water management and water quality surveillance. The issue further presents State-level stories and field experiences, including tap water connections in remote habitations, capacity building, community participation, solar energy-based water supply, reduction of women's drudgery, water conservation campaigns and grievance redressal mechanisms.
