Jal Jeevan Samvad – April 2024 presents the progress, initiatives, innovations and experiences of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in advancing safe, adequate and sustainable drinking-water supply to rural households. The 43rd edition focuses particularly on Data and Digital Governance, demonstrating how data, digital technologies and technology-enabled systems are being integrated into water-sector planning, monitoring and service delivery. The publication covers the progress of Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) and the comparative status of States and Union Territories as of 30 April 2024. It reports national rural household tap-water coverage and the progress towards Har Ghar Jal. A major section of the issue explores IoT and digital portable water-testing kits, including real-time monitoring of water quality, quantity, distribution, leakage and infrastructure performance. The issue explains how sensor-based technologies and digital testing devices can support data-driven decision-making, early detection of water-quality problems, efficient resource management and improved operation and maintenance of rural water-supply systems.
