The Jal Jeevan Survekshan 2023 – Monthly Bulletin, December 2022 is a performance assessment publication under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). Jal Jeevan Survekshan (JJS) was launched on 21 October 2022 to assess the performance of districts and States/UTs in achieving the objectives of JJM and to encourage healthy competition while recognising high-performing districts. The Survekshan provides monthly, quarterly and annual rankings and felicitation based on predefined criteria. The bulletin covers the monthly ranking for December 2022 and quarterly ranking for October–December 2022. It includes State rankings, monthly and quarterly district rankings, rankings within different performance categories, districts moving to higher categories, and analytical annexures. District performance is assessed using key indicators related to household tap-water coverage, with three broad components: physical progress (50 marks), water-quality monitoring and surveillance (30 marks), and institutional arrangements for assured water supply (20 marks). Districts are classified as Aspirants, Performers, Achievers, High Achievers and Front Runners according to household tap-water coverage. The bulletin also recognises the best-performing, fastest-moving and upwardly graduating districts, thereby promoting performance improvement and accountability in rural drinking-water service delivery.
The purpose of the bulletin is to assess and communicate the performance of States/UTs and districts under Jal Jeevan Mission, promote healthy competition, recognise high-performing and rapidly improving districts, and provide evidence-based rankings based on tap-water coverage, water-quality monitoring and institutional arrangements for assured rural drinking-water supply.
