Jal Jeevan Samvad – June 2025 is the 57th edition of the monthly publication of the National Jal Jeevan Mission. The issue is centred on the theme “Water, Environment & Life” and examines how access to safe drinking water is closely connected with environmental sustainability, public health, community well-being and climate resilience. The edition presents the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and its objective of providing Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) to rural households. The publication includes JJM progress and comparative FHTC coverage across States/UTs, with the status reported as on 30 June 2025. A major focus is the relationship between water security and environmental sustainability. The issue discusses groundwater recharge, wastewater management, sustainable water sources, restoration of traditional water bodies, ecosystem protection and community stewardship. It emphasizes that JJM goes beyond service delivery by promoting environmental responsibility and participatory management. The publication highlights several innovative and community-led initiatives across India. These include rainwater harvesting in Mizoram, climate-adaptive WASH interventions in Assam, spring protection in Himalayan areas, hybrid solar-powered water systems in Maharashtra and rooftop rainwater harvesting through Odisha’s CHHATA Scheme. The issue also gives considerable attention to plastic pollution and its impact on water resources. It advocates community-level clean-up drives, awareness campaigns, behaviour-change communication, plastic reduction and convergence between JJM and SBM-G to protect drinking-water sources from pollution. Community leadership is another important theme. The publication profiles WASH champions in Madhya Pradesh, demonstrating how local leaders, VWSC members and Panchayat representatives contribute to water conservation, financial sustainability, community-level water-quality testing and long-term management of rural water-supply systems. The edition also covers the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2025, highlighting the role of DDWS in promoting safe drinking water, water-quality monitoring, sanitation, hygiene and behaviour-change communication at village level. Other important coverage includes India-Nepal cooperation on WASH, field visits and reviews by senior DDWS officials, JJM Samvad interactions with District Collectors/Magistrates, traditional water-body restoration in Nagaland, and efforts to strengthen convergence, institutional capacity and sustainable water management.
