Jal Jeevan Samvad – July 2025 is the 58th edition of the monthly publication of the National Jal Jeevan Mission. The edition focuses on “Social Equity and Inclusion under JJM”, presenting the Jal Jeevan Mission as an initiative that goes beyond infrastructure creation to promote dignity, fairness, participation and inclusive rural transformation. The publication highlights how Har Ghar Jal is helping reduce social and gender inequalities by providing access to safe drinking water to households across rural India. It particularly documents the experiences of women, girls, tribal communities, Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), nomadic groups and economically disadvantaged communities. Improved water access is linked with greater school attendance, reduced burden of water collection, improved dignity and increased opportunities for women. The edition presents several field stories demonstrating the impact of JJM. These include Roshna village in Madhya Pradesh, where women led implementation and community water governance; Masantola, a tribal village where all 48 households gained water access; and a Bihar initiative highlighting the relationship between household water availability, psychological well-being and reduced seasonal migration. A significant part of the issue focuses on sustainable operation and maintenance (O&M) of rural piped water supply systems. It covers the two-day National Stakeholder Consultation Workshop held on 10–11 July 2025 in New Delhi, which discussed institutional mechanisms, community participation, financing, accountability, technology and long-term service delivery. The publication also explores technology-enabled and data-driven water governance, including AI, GIS, IoT sensors, SCADA, digital dashboards, real-time monitoring, grievance-redressal platforms and digital access for citizens, utilities and Panchayats. These technologies are presented as important tools for improving transparency, accountability, efficiency and sustainable O&M. Community participation and women's leadership receive particular emphasis. The issue describes how women and marginalised groups are represented in Village Water & Sanitation Committees (VWSCs), while women are being trained as pump operators and water-quality testers. It also highlights community-led water governance in Gujarat and the involvement of Self-Help Groups in operation and maintenance. The edition also includes JJM progress and Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) coverage, field-level experiences from different States, the water story of Pandui village, parliamentary questions and press releases, the visit of Members of Parliament from Nepal, and glimpses of JJM Samvad meetings with District Collectors and District Magistrates.
