Jal Jeevan Samvad – August 2025 is the 59th edition of the monthly publication of the National Jal Jeevan Mission, Ministry of Jal Shakti. The issue is centred on “Jan Bhagidari se Peyjal Prabandhan”, emphasizing that sustainable rural drinking water services depend not only on infrastructure but also on active community ownership and participation. The edition reflects on the six-year journey of the Jal Jeevan Mission, from expanding household tap-water connections to ensuring reliable, safe and sustainable water services. It presents the progress of Har Ghar Jal and Functional Household Tap Connections, including national and State/UT-wise coverage status as of 31 August 2025. A major focus is on community-led water governance. Field experiences demonstrate how Village Water & Sanitation Committees, Gram Panchayats, Self-Help Groups and local citizens are taking responsibility for operation and maintenance, tariff collection, pump management, water-quality monitoring and grievance redressal. The Sindhudurg experience particularly showcases women's leadership in managing a village tap-water scheme. The publication also covers source sustainability and water security, including aquifer and spring protection, groundwater recharge, water budgeting, greywater reuse, leakage management, disinfection and regular water-quality surveillance. It emphasizes the transition from merely creating infrastructure to ensuring that water systems remain functional and dependable over the long term. Technology-enabled participation is another important theme. The issue highlights the ‘Jal Mitra’ application and its use for monitoring community engagement, functionality assessments and grievances, demonstrating how digital systems can improve transparency and accountability in rural water management. The edition also includes articles on water management in Sindhudurg, community water security, women-led collective action, transformation from water scarcity to water security, ICT-based monitoring, community-led safe water initiatives, Har Ghar Tiranga and Har Ghar Swachhata, along with field visits, JJM progress, contests and State/UT activities.
