Jal Jeevan Samvad – April 2026 is the 67th edition of the publication of the National Jal Jeevan Mission, Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti. The edition highlights the evolving focus of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) from infrastructure creation towards reliable, sustainable and accountable drinking-water service delivery. It presents progress in Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs), including the status of rural tap-water coverage as of April 2026. A central feature is the 6th Sujal Gram Samvad, which focuses on strengthening community leadership for water security. The edition documents experiences from Gram Panchayats across several States and Union Territories, showcasing community ownership, water-quality testing, operation and maintenance, user charges, source sustainability, women’s participation and locally appropriate water-management models. The Karnataka and Chhattisgarh examples, for instance, demonstrate community-led financial management, skilled Nal Jal Mitras, digital user-charge collection and regular water-quality monitoring. The issue also covers reform-linked MoUs with Uttarakhand, Karnataka and Tripura under JJM 2.0, emphasising cooperative federalism, Gram Panchayat-led governance, sustainable O&M, accountability and community participation.
