Green Credits–Natural Farming

Green Credits–Natural Farming

The Green Credits – Natural Farming dataset, part of the CoRE Stack, maps areas practicing or suitable for natural and regenerative farming under the Green Credits Programme. It captures agro-ecological conditions, land-use patterns, and sustainability indicators to support promotion of chemical-free agriculture, soil health restoration, and climate-resilient farming systems. Integrated with other CoRE Stack layers, it enables planning, monitoring, and verification of natural farming interventions and their environmental benefits.

About Dataset

The Green Credits – Natural Farming dataset is included in the CoRE Stack (Commoning for Resilience and Equality) and aligns with the Government of India’s Green Credits Programme to promote sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices. It maps areas across India where natural farming is practiced or has high potential, considering factors such as soil health, agro-ecological conditions, cropping systems, water availability, and existing chemical input intensity. This dataset supports the planning, promotion, and monitoring of natural farming interventions by helping identify priority regions for transition to chemical-free agriculture, enhanced soil fertility, and reduced environmental externalities. It enables assessment of ecosystem benefits such as improved soil organic matter, reduced carbon footprint, and increased climate resilience at the farm and landscape levels. It serves as an important spatial decision-support layer for farmers, agricultural departments, civil society organizations, and policymakers working on sustainable agriculture, climate-smart land management, and Green Credits implementation. When combined with other CoRE Stack datasets — including Land Use, Agro-Ecological Zones, Soil, and Hydrological Layers — it provides a comprehensive foundation for evaluating natural farming suitability, tracking outcomes, and designing evidence-based incentives under the Green Credits framework.

Technical details and methodologies are available in the CoRE Stack Technical Manual: https://core-stack.org/core-stack-technical-manual-v2/

Purpose of Dataset

The Purpose Of The Green Credits – Natural Farming Dataset Is To Identify, Map, And Support Regions Practicing Or Suitable For Natural And Regenerative Farming Under The Green Credits Programme. It Enables Planning And Monitoring Of Chemical-free Agriculture, Assessment Of Soil And Ecosystem Benefits, And Informed Decision-making For Promoting Sustainable, Climate-resilient Farming Systems. Integrated With Other Core Stack Layers, It Helps Evaluate Natural Farming Potential And Guide Evidence-based Incentives And Interventions.
