The Drainage Lines, Stream Order Map, and Distance to Upstream Drainage Line datasets, part of the CoRE Stack, together provide a detailed view of natural drainage networks and terrain–hydrology patterns. Drainage Lines map rivers and streams, Stream Order classifies them by hierarchy, and Distance to Upstream Drainage Line measures how far each land pixel is from the nearest upstream flow path. Combined, they support watershed delineation, flow modeling, and data-driven water and landscape management.
The Drainage Lines, Stream Order Map, and Distance to Upstream Drainage Line datasets are core hydrological layers within the CoRE Stack, providing an integrated view of natural drainage networks and terrain connectivity. Drainage Lines map rivers and streams derived from digital elevation models, Stream Order classifies them by hierarchical flow structure, and the Distance to Upstream Drainage Line dataset measures how far each land unit is from its nearest upstream drainage feature. Together, they support watershed delineation, runoff and flow analysis, and planning for water conservation, recharge, and soil erosion management. When combined with other CoRE Stack layers, these datasets enable comprehensive, data-driven hydrological and landscape planning.
Technical details and methodologies are available in the CoRE Stack Technical Manual: https://core-stack.org/core-stack-technical-manual-v2/
The Purpose Of The Drainage Lines, Stream Order Map, And Distance To Upstream Drainage Line Datasets Is To Provide An Integrated View Of Natural Drainage Networks And Terrain–hydrology Connectivity For Sustainable Watershed Planning. Together, They Map Rivers And Streams, Classify Their Hierarchical Flow Structure, And Measure Distance To Upstream Drainage Features—supporting Runoff Analysis, Watershed Delineation, Recharge Zone Identification, And Planning Of Water Conservation And Harvesting Interventions. Integrated Within The Core Stack, They Enable Comprehensive, Data-driven Water And Landscape Management.
