Dehwali Bhili Translations dataset

Dehwali Bhili Translations dataset

This dataset comprises bilingual translations between Marathi and Dehwali Bhili, along with validation annotations and reference samples for language learning, linguistic research, cultural preservation, and the development of multilingual AI applications.

About Dataset

Bhili is an indigenous Indo-Aryan language spoken by over 10 million members of the Bhil tribal community across western and central India. Through Project Astitva, Karya collaborated with 400+ native Bhili speakers in partnership with the district administration of Nandurbar, Maharashtra, to create high-quality digital language resources for Dehwali Bhili. These efforts enabled the development of India's first tribal language model in Bhili, which has subsequently been integrated into MahaVISTAAR AI with support from the Maharashtra state government and Bhashini. The resulting dataset contains 14,000+ bilingual translation records between Marathi and Dehwali Bhili, along with validation annotations and reference samples. It provides a structured linguistic resource for developing machine translation systems, language learning tools, speech and language technologies, and other AI applications. In addition to supporting technology development, the dataset serves as a valuable resource for linguistic analysis, enabling research on Dehwali Bhili grammar, syntax, and language use while contributing to the preservation and digital representation of Bhili linguistic and cultural heritage.
