About Dataset

This dataset captures details on off-grid and decentralized renewable energy systems/devices across India — including counts (or existence) of devices such as biogas plants, biomass gasifiers, small hydro / micro-hydro installations, solar PV home-systems or stand-alone systems, and other decentralized renewables for periods for which data was compiled. By aggregating data at the state (or UT) level, the dataset enables analysis of regional distribution of decentralized renewable energy adoption, helps identify energy-poor or under-served regions, supports policy and planning for rural electrification and clean energy access, and allows tracking progress of renewable energy deployment outside main grid infrastructure.
