This presentation explains the need for effective quality assurance and quality control during implementation of rural water supply schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission. It highlights common problems such as poor workmanship, inadequate quality control and premature system deterioration, and proposes digital instruments for precise field verification. The approach covers water-quality parameters, pipe dimensions, material quality, electrical cable sizing, concrete strength, solar-pump alignment
The presentation describes an on-site quality assurance and quality control approach for rural water supply implementation under the Jal Jeevan Mission, with emphasis on digital instruments. It identifies poor workmanship, inadequate knowledge of quality-control methods and weak construction practices as factors that can increase operation and maintenance expenditure and reduce system life. Quality assurance is presented as a process covering planning and implementation of all major water-supply components in accordance with norms, guidelines and standards. The proposed field approach uses digital instruments to verify important water-quality parameters such as pH, TDS, iron, fluoride and free chlorine, and to check pipe thickness, internal and external diameter, weight, electrical wire sizing and concrete strength. Instruments such as digital screw gauges, Vernier calipers, spring balances, rebound hammers, zinc-coating thickness gauges, degree protectors and magnetic compasses are highlighted. The presentation also addresses solar pumping installation, mounting structures and non-destructive testing. Overall, the document positions digital field measurement as a practical way to strengthen QA/QC, improve compliance, detect defects early and support sustainable water-supply infrastructure under JJM.
