Agro-Ecological, Climatic and Biogeographic Zone

Agro-Ecological, Climatic and Biogeographic Zone

The Agro-Ecological, Agro-Climatic, and Biogeographic Zone dataset, part of the CoRE Stack, integrates the spatial delineation of India’s ecological and agricultural regions based on soil and physiography, climate conditions, and broader biogeographic characteristics. Together, these layers provide a holistic understanding of agricultural potential, climate-driven cropping suitability, and ecological diversity. This combined dataset supports sustainable land-use planning, climate-resilient agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem management across scales.

About Dataset

The Agro-Ecological, Agro-Climatic, and Biogeographic Zone dataset, part of the CoRE Stack (Commoning for Resilience and Equality), brings together three national-level classifications that define India’s agricultural and ecological landscapes. It integrates agro-ecological regions based on soil, terrain, and cropping conditions; agro-climatic zones shaped by temperature, rainfall, and humidity regimes; and biogeographic zones that reflect the country’s major ecological and biodiversity regions. Together, these layers provide a comprehensive framework for understanding agricultural potential, climate-driven cropping suitability, ecological diversity, and landscape resilience. When combined with land use, terrain, water resources, and vegetation datasets in the CoRE Stack, they support integrated land-use planning, climate-resilient agriculture, ecosystem conservation, and sustainable resource management across scales.

Technical details and methodologies are available in the CoRE Stack Technical Manual: https://core-stack.org/core-stack-technical-manual-v2/

Purpose of Dataset

The Purpose Of The Agro-ecological, Agro-climatic, And Biogeographic Zone Dataset Is To Provide An Integrated Framework For Understanding India’s Agricultural Potential, Climate-driven Suitability, And Ecological Diversity. By Combining Ecological, Climatic, And Biogeographic Regionalization, The Dataset Supports Sustainable Land-use Planning, Climate-resilient Agriculture, Biodiversity Conservation, And Holistic Landscape Management Within The Core Stack.
