“6 Years of Jal Jeevan Mission” is a publication documenting the journey, achievements and impact of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), launched on 15 August 2019 with the vision of providing safe and adequate drinking water through household tap connections to every rural household in India. The publication highlights the Mission's progress from 3.23 crore rural households with tap water connections in August 2019 to 15.68 crore households by 20 August 2025, representing more than 12.45 crore new functional household tap connections. The report describes JJM's vision of universalizing water and sanitation services and its four strong pillars: political will, people's participation, public finance and partnership. It presents key components including tap water supply, community engagement, women's participation, skill development, greywater management, source sustainability and water-quality management. The publication also documents the Mission's paradigm shift from habitation-level access to household-level tap water supply, along with improvements in water-quality infrastructure, women's participation and source sustainability. It highlights the Mission's milestones, impacts on equity, inclusiveness, gender equality, reduction in drudgery, well-being and employment generation. Further, the report showcases water-quality interventions, Field Test Kit initiatives led by women, digital platforms, IoT-based monitoring, portable water-testing technologies and the JJM digital ecosystem.
