About Dataset

5 Years of Jal Jeevan Mission – 2024 presents an overview of the progress, achievements and transformative impact of the Jal Jeevan Mission since its launch on 15 August 2019. The publication documents the Mission’s journey towards universal access to safe and adequate drinking water through household tap connections in rural India. It highlights the substantial expansion in rural household tap-water coverage, from 32.3 million rural households with Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) in August 2019 to more than 153.02 million households by 25 November 2024, with more than 120.66 million new functional household tap connections provided during the period. The booklet explains the vision, four strong pillars and major components of JJM, including tap water supply, bottom-up planning, women’s empowerment, skill development, water quality, greywater management, source sustainability and community participation. It also presents milestones achieved during the Mission’s implementation. The publication highlights JJM’s wider impacts on equity and inclusiveness, gender equality, reduction of drudgery, health and well-being, and employment generation. It further describes reforms in drinking-water service delivery, water-quality management systems and digital initiatives such as JJM-IMIS, JJM Dashboard, WQMIS, field applications and other technology-enabled platforms. Overall, the booklet portrays JJM as a major national initiative aimed at improving rural living standards and achieving drinking-water security through infrastructure, technology, community participation and sustainable water management.
