It showcases strategic planning, source sustainability, community participation, water-quality monitoring, grievance redressal and technology-enabled supervision for reliable rural drinking-water services.

About Dataset

The Peyjal Samvad of District Water & Sanitation Mission (DWSM), SAS Nagar, Punjab, presents the district’s achievements and strategies under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) for ensuring universal access to safe and functional tap water. SAS Nagar reports 82,024 households served with 100% Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) coverage, along with 340 Har Ghar Jal villages, 731 schools with tap connections and 438 Anganwadis equipped with functional tap water connections. The presentation describes a structured planning and implementation framework based on District Action Plans (DAPs) and Village Action Plans (VAPs). Implementation is undertaken through Gram Panchayat Water and Sanitation Committees (GPWSCs), supported technically by the Department of Water Supply. The district also planned 34 new schemes for FY 2025–26 to further strengthen potable water infrastructure. Source sustainability is addressed through a District Water Conservation Plan, Jal Shakti Abhiyan initiatives, plantation and Nanak Bagichi development, along with convergence with MGNREGA, the Forest Department and Swachh Bharat Mission for recharge pits, check dams and rainwater harvesting systems. A key achievement highlighted is that SAS Nagar became the first district in Punjab and sixth in India to achieve universal piped water connections, with 100% household coverage reported by July 2020. The presentation also emphasizes Har Ghar Jal certification, community engagement, monthly reviews, IMIS-based monitoring and a 24×7 grievance redressal system. The Regional Water Testing Laboratory provides bacteriological and chemical analysis, ISO-compliant testing and year-round monitoring through pre- and post-monsoon testing and a mobile testing van.

Purpose of Dataset

The purpose of this Peyjal Samvad is to document and showcase SAS Nagar’s achievements under Jal Jeevan Mission, particularly universal FHTC coverage, Har Ghar Jal certification, sustainable water-resource management, community participation, effective monitoring, grievance redressal and water-quality assurance. It highlights institutional and technical practices supporting reliable, safe and sustainable rural drinking-water services.
