The presentation showcases 24×7 water-supply efforts, solar pumping, rainwater harvesting, sustainable O&M, water-user charges and grey-water management.
The 3rd District Collectors’ Peyjal Samvad, presented by the Deputy Commissioner of Mamit District, Mizoram, on 27 November 2025, showcases the district’s implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and innovative approaches to providing sustainable rural drinking-water services. The presentation reports 91 habitations across Reiek, West Phaileng and Zawlnuam Blocks, with 100% Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) coverage reported for the identified habitations. A key focus is the Lallen village JJM Best Practice, which aims to provide 24×7 water supply to 190 households serving approximately 950 people in West Phaileng Block. The initiative is community-led and includes replacement of old NRDWP pipes, construction of rainwater harvesting structures and procurement of essential tools and equipment. The Lallen Water Supply Scheme combines a JJM-funded solar pumping scheme with a gravity-fed water-supply system supported through the State Maintenance Fund. A GI-roof rainwater harvesting structure has been installed over the main reservoir. The community collects ₹150 per household per month, generating an average monthly collection of around ₹28,500 for scheme management. The Village WATSAN Committee manages O&M through a rotating local worker, supported by a petrol-engine welding generator and walkie-talkie. Grey water is managed through community soak pits under SBM(G), with some reused for kitchen gardening. The presentation therefore demonstrates how community ownership, renewable energy, rainwater harvesting and local financing can contribute to sustainable rural water-supply services.
The purpose of this Peyjal Samvad is to showcase Mamit District’s Jal Jeevan Mission initiatives, particularly the community-led Lallen Water Supply Scheme. It demonstrates approaches for achieving reliable and sustainable water supply through solar pumping, rainwater harvesting, community-based O&M, user-fee collection, grey-water management and local participation.
