Collectors’ Peyjal Samvad – Dang, Gujarat, under the Jal Jeevan Mission, highlights sustainable operation and maintenance (O&M), effective governance, 100% Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) coverage, water quality management, community participation, capacity building, grievance redressal and innovative financial mechanisms for sustaining village-level water supply schemes.
The Collectors’ Peyjal Samvad – Dang, Gujarat, held under the Jal Jeevan Mission, presents the district’s experience in achieving universal rural tap water coverage while strengthening sustainable operation and maintenance and effective governance. Dang comprises three talukas—Ahwa, Subir and Waghai—with 311 villages and 47,511 households, all reported with 100% FHTC coverage. The district also reports tap water connections in all schools and Anganwadis. The presentation places strong emphasis on decentralised governance and community participation. Village Water & Sanitation Committees (VWSCs), Village Action Plans and women trained in water quality testing are reported across all villages. Water samples are tested for bacteriological and chemical parameters, supported by a NABL-accredited laboratory and monitoring through WQMIS. A major focus is sustainable O&M through PACS and Self-Help Groups (SHGs), water tax collection, regular DWSU monitoring and Pani Samiti meetings. Six training sessions have trained 193 PACS/SHG members, while O&M SOPs have been prepared for Gram Panchayats, PACS and SHGs. The document also showcases a 24×7 grievance redressal mechanism, ITI-based training of village water-supply operators, women’s participation, water-quality awareness and incentive-based approaches to improve water-tax collection and O&M performance.
The purpose of this Peyjal Samvad is to showcase Dang district’s successful implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission through universal tap water coverage, sustainable O&M, effective governance, community participation, water quality monitoring, capacity building, grievance redressal and financial sustainability. It highlights replicable practices for maintaining reliable, safe and community-managed rural drinking water services.
