Peyjal Samvad 2025 – Transforming Water Resources in District Baramulla showcases the transformation of rural drinking-water services under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Baramulla District, Jammu & Kashmir. The presentation, made by the Deputy Commissioner, highlights the district's progress in expanding household tap-water connections and strengthening water-supply infrastructure. Baramulla has provided 1,29,336 Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs), covering 88.5% of rural households, while 111 Har Ghar Jal villages have been reported. Schools and Anganwadi Centres have achieved 100% coverage. The presentation describes extensive infrastructure, including a 6,600-km pipe network, 228 filtration plants, 391 service reservoirs and 59 overhead tanks. It also highlights strong monitoring mechanisms through the District Water and Sanitation Mission, third-party monitoring, district monitoring committees, a JJM grievance cell and an in-house design cell. Community participation and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities have been implemented across 518 villages, including awareness campaigns, school rallies, Gram Sabhas and Field Test Kit-based water testing. Source sustainability measures include plantation, catchment management, water-body rejuvenation, recharge pits, spring restoration and geo-tagging. A major success story is the shift from tanker dependency to tap water, with more than 2,500 households receiving filtered, pressurised tap water through JJM schemes. The Parihaspora scheme further demonstrates large-scale, people-centric water infrastructure and socio-economic transformation.
The purpose of this Peyjal Samvad is to document and showcase Baramulla’s progress in transforming rural drinking-water services through Jal Jeevan Mission. It highlights FHTC expansion, Har Ghar Jal achievements, water-quality assurance, source sustainability, infrastructure development, community participation and innovative practices, demonstrating the social and economic benefits of reliable tap-water supply.
